The WAD stall aims to be inclusive, informative, and start conversations with people on their way to work.

Staff, identified by their WAD T-shirts, will be handing out Red Ribbons and explaining their significance.

The KRC bus will also be at the Fountain for any opportunistic testing.

A red flower will be distributed to each person that engages with the Services’ and has a spin of the HIV/AIDS myth busting spinning wheel.

People are encouraged to drop by and engage in local community conversation.

A WAD information stall will be set-up as part of the St George “Youth Reach” program – an outreach program which includes monthly pop-up events and activities targeting at risk and newly arrived young people aged 12-18 years.

The aim of the stall is to raise awareness amongst young people and their families about the significance of WAD, reducing the stigma of AIDS/HIV, prevention of HIV, getting tested, and promotion of services.

Participation of the educational spinning wheel and paper quizzes will be encouraged by ‘red’ giveaways including red icy poles and/or red slushies.

On Wednesday 28 November volunteers will be selling Red Ribbons at the Lismore Shopping Square, and on Thursday 29 November in Lismore CDB and Nimbin.

Participants will hear from keynote speaker Dr Jennifer Power, Principal Researcher, HIV Futures, Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, who will explore what factors contribute to good QoL.

Join in the discussion and bring all those questions you’ve always had about living with HIV.

Aboriginal HIV Awareness Week Event

An Aboriginal HIV Awareness week event will be held at University Centre for Rural Health in Lismore on Friday 30 November with stalls, speakers, giveaways and a free lunch for community and local service workers.

This event is collaboration between Bulgarr Ngaru, ACON Northern Rivers and HARP North Coast.

The event will raise awareness of the changing landscape of HIV epidemiology in aboriginal peoples, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for aboriginal communities.

Dr James Ward who leads the Infectious Diseases Research: Aboriginal Health research group at South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) is keynote speaker.
