VIRTUAL

For the first time we are unable to run our annual Street Appeal for WAD. In lieu of this, we are running virtual events across World AIDS Awareness month, commencing Monday 2 November and running right through to World AIDS Day, which falls on Wednesday 1 December 2021. The event presentations will be delivered to workplaces and will cover topics relating to HIV and AIDS from a historical context and how things look today. The presentation aims to be educative, informative and engaging.

This year we commemorate World AIDS Day with the re-launch of the Tasmanian Pride Awards.  On December 1st, we invite the community to join us in remembrance of those who have been impacted by HIV and AIDS.  In recognition of our past, we will also be celebrating the achievements of the individuals and organisations in our community that have made significant impacts to remove prejudice and improve the lives of Tasmanians.

About the event

The objective of the activation is to raise awareness in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS, particularly the continuing impacts of stigma and discrimination. World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died of AIDS. A breafast will be held in the morning for internal and external partners, stakeholders, and community members. This will be followed by having information stalls set up throughout Yagan Square during the day and then the lights across the city will turn red and an outdoor film will play on the digital tower in Yagan square. The event is free.
